Del Potro through, Murray out in dramatic end

November 26th, 2009 by ytwlgs8

Earlier Murray had defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3) to keep himself in contention, but to be safe he needed Federer to win the night match. Murray could still have made it if Federer had managed to take the third set even one game further before losing because that would have given the Scot a better average of games won and lost than del Potro.
Usually these things are decided by sets won Wholesale Air Jordan Fusions and lost if three players end up with 2-1 winning records, but the closeness of this round-robin group had taken things past that. At one time during a day of hastily revised calculations, it seemed that a head-to-head record in this tournament would come into play, but ATP Supervisor Gayle Bradshaw insisted that rule had been discarded some years ago. So percentages of sets won and lost it was and, unhappily for the large, knowledgeable and enthusiastic crowds that have been filling this magnificent O2 Arena to its capacity for each session, Murray’s season is over.
How many people in the crowd were aware of the unfolding drama when Federer reached break point three times on the Argentine’s serve at 3-3 in the third set is impossible to guess, but at least they were rewarded with one of the most entertaining matches of the tournament to date as Federer unleashed all his mercurial talents against the man who had beaten him in the U.S. Open final last Wholesale Brand Shoes September.
Del Potro got away to a fast start but Federer, keen to finish top of his group (which he ultimately did despite this defeat) refused to buckle and staged a magnificent fight back from two points to four down in the second-set tiebreak.
Taking the attack to his baseline-hugging opponent, Federer scored with two great volleys to win the breaker 7-5 and then, at the start of the third set, produced the play of the tournament so far — a wonderful drop shot, perfect lob and, off del Potro’s through-the-legs reply, a winning forehand volley.
The Argentine, supported by one of his nation’s leading soccer stars — Carlos Tevez, who plays in England for Manchester City — started to waver in the face of all this dazzling talent and two errors put him 15-40 down in the seventh game. Good serving got him out of trouble but, again, Federer pulled off the drop shot-lob combo to reach a third break point. This time a first serve kissed the line with such venom that Federer could not reply and that proved to be that — for Federer in the match and Murray in Wholesale Nike Other Shoes the tournament.
Collapsing just as he had against Rafael Nadal in the closing moments of their great Australian Open final, Federer hit a smash an inch long; double faulted and hit a bad forehand well wide to drop serve in the next game. Holding his nerve, del Potro served out for a well deserved victory.

Murdoch courts trouble if he blocks Google on news

    November 23rd, 2009 by ytwlgs8

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Rupert Murdoch has spent months complaining that Google is ruining the newspaper business, and now he wants to do something about it.
But, his proposal is a gamble, and one that could hurt News Corp instead of helping it.
Murdoch is considering Wholesale Brand clothing removing News Corp’s news from Google’s Web search results, and is talking to Microsoft Corp about listing the stories with its Bing search engine instead. Microsoft would pay for the privilege, sources have told Reuters, but it was not clear how much.
If Murdoch pulled this off, he will likely be followed by other newspaper publishers looking for ways to make money when all the old ones are waning in the digital age.
Newspaper owners resent Google because the Internet company makes money from the advertisements that it displays next to news search results.
News Corp’s proposal is a way to get a cut of the action. Risks include destroying ad revenue most news websites depend on if traffic goes down because Google users can’t find the stories. It’s also not clear how regulators would feel about such a move.
“You’re immediately cutting off audience,” said Jeff Jarvis, media blogger and author of the book “What Would Google Do?”
Google brings as much as 14 percent of incoming traffic to News Corp’s U.S. news websites, including the New York Post Wholesale Sports Jerseys and Fox News, Bernstein analyst Jeffrey Lindsay estimated.
If News Corp blocked access to Google, he wrote in a note to investors, it would hurt only News Corp.
Many people find their news on Google, which has 65 percent of the U.S. search market according to comScore. Newspaper publishers whose websites depend on advertising sales want lots of visitors, and need Google to supply them.
Google provides news organizations about 100,000 clicks a minute, said company spokesman Gabriel Stricker. “Each of those visits offers a business opportunity for the publishers to show ads, win loyal readers and sell subscriptions,” he said.
Making Microsoft’s Bing search engine the only way to look for news would slice away visitors and lower the amount of money news websites could charge advertisers.
There is little chance people will abandon Google, which has become such a giant that its name is also a Wholesale Brand T-shirt Series verb.
“Consumers do not expect search engines to be exclusive,” Forrester analyst Shar VanBoskirk wrote. “If they can’t find something through search, it may as well not exist.”

Iran begins air-defense drills to protect nuclear sites

    November 23rd, 2009 by ytwlgs8

Reporting from Beirut – Iran today launched what it described as its biggest air- defense drill ever with the aim of preparing to protect the country’s nuclear sites from possible airstrikes as international talks to Air Jordan 18 resolve the long stalemate over the nation’s atomic research program falter.

Meanwhile, domestic opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi continued to put pressure on the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, praising protesters for turning an annual march against the U.S. into an anti-government rally met with a violent response by throngs of security forces.

“What we saw in the streets was a huge campaign against the people,” he said in an interview posted to his website. “Throughout the history of the revolution, I had never seen such a scene and such deployment of so many forces. [It] showed how they fear this movement and what grandeur it possesses.”

Mousavi has been the figurehead of a grass-roots Air Jordan 19 opposition movement that sprang out of Iran’s disputed June 12 election, in which he was declared the runner-up. Analysts say the ongoing crisis of domestic political authority has complicated international efforts to forge a diplomatic compromise with Iran over its nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at eventually producing weapons.

The tussle over what Tehran insists is a civilian nuclear program has become wedded to Iran’s domestic factional battles. Both hardliners and moderates have criticized an international proposal to exchange the bulk of Iran’s potentially dual-use nuclear material for fuel rods fitted for a Tehran medical reactor, though Ahmadinejad and his closest allies have praised it.

Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency told Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine that Iran had still not rejected the U.S.-backed fuel-swap proposal but needs guarantees it would get back medical fuel rods in exchange for its low-enriched uranium.

“We have enough reasons to distrust the Air Jordan 20 West because of their behavior in the past 30 years,” he told the magazine.

The Obama administration has vowed to resolve the crisis diplomatically but is threatening increased economic sanctions. Others in Washington talk of possible military action against Iran.

Mammogram Debate Took Group by Surprise

    November 20th, 2009 by ytwlgs8

Yet, some observers say, its apolitical nature may have made it naïve about just how strongly Congress; some professionals, like radiologists; advocacy groups, like the and members of the public would react.
As soon as the task Ugg Bailey Button Fancy Boots force’s guidelines were released on Monday, recommending against routine mammograms for most women in their 40s and saying women should consider having the screening test every other year instead of annually, the maelstrom erupted.
Republicans and some groups, like the said the guidelines were made in response to the Obama administration’s wish to save health care dollars.
Dr. Diana Petitti, the vice chairwoman of the task force, said Thursday that she had been taken aback by the reaction. She did not realize, she said, the extent of the context. There has been an intense controversy over the screening of younger women, dating back more than a decade and involving Congressional hearings.
“I was relatively unaware of it,” she said. “I have Ugg Classic Short Paisley Boots been made aware of it now.”
Dr. Michael LeFevre, another task force member, said he, too, had been caught off guard by the way the guidelines were received. The task force’s message was distorted, he said, into a purely negative one, when the group meant to encourage women to make their own decisions.
“It’s partly our fault,” Dr. LeFevre said, adding that the group would now be trying to figure out how they could have gotten their point across without stirring such a controversy.
But Dr. Philip Lee, who was an assistant secretary for health in the Clinton administration, said he was surprised by how politically naïve the task force members seemed.
“Here we are on the lip he said, a time when people are suspicious of any talk of taking away benefits. And the task force says, “They just have to look at the evidence and present the evidence and that’s that?”
The task force was Ugg Classic Tall Baroque Boots 5852 created in 1984, at a time when screening methods for levels and were just emerging and rarely paid for by insurers. So Dr. J. Michael McGinnis, deputy assistant secretary for health, decided to set up the group to evaluate how well such methods worked.
He decided right away that the group had to be insulated from politics. The idea, he said, was to identify medical experts who could objectively evaluate evidence and to protect the group from any political pressures so they could write honest assessments.
